Abstract

Stricken by grief from his wife's infidelity, a sultan marries a new virgin each night, only to execute her at daybreak. After some time he marries his vizier's clever daughter, Scheherazade, who tells the sultan a fascinating story that does not reach its conclusion. He stays her execution so she can finish it the next night and as it turns out the story continues by one of its characters recounting a fascinating story. The process continued like this for one thousand and one nights.
